Oral hygiene

While dentists treat the disease, it is the role of the Oral Hygienist to help prevent oral disease occurring in the first place.

Our oral hygienist therefore has a very important role in the practise. She instructs and motivates patients to keep good oral health and hygiene. This is often also the first exposure that children have to a dental surgery.

Services rendered are:
Scaling and polishing of teeth.
An ultra-sonic scaler removes plaque and tartar. Despite regular brushing, a person still needs this to be done every 6 months.

Dental hygiene techniques
Personalized information is given to each patient, according to specific needs, which includes recommendations on the correct tooth brush, brush technique, flossing, type of tooth paste etc.

Toddlers and pre-school children
When young children visit the oral hygienist from an early age, their fear of a dentist’s office are markedly reduced! During their visit they are introduced to the new environment in a playful manner. Their teeth will be polished and tooth brushing methods will be demonstrated. If there is any problem, it will be discussed with the parents.

Generally our recommendation is that people do 6 monthly visits to the oral hygienist. However high risk individuals need 3 monthly visits.
